I had a dog owners complain about their dogs growling at them to me and even snap at them, if something isn't going the way a DOG. It is not surprising. The dog had been led to believe that he is the leader of the pack. It believes it is the dog, Alpha, because it does not have an Alpha Dog, and someone has to execute a task.
Dogs are pack animals. In the package has a definite orders "pecking", and is always the Alpha Dog. Alpha Dog take decisions for the group. Alpha Dog's BOSS. When a DOG is adopted into a family of people that the human family is the Service pack. Puppy will just naturally assume that one of the members of this package is no longer an Alpha Dog. Now you don't have to snap the dog or growl on your dog, and certainly do not need to HIT your dog in order to become the Alpha Dog in his eyes. Alpha is an attitude. Has anything of any size or anything else. If you want your dog to see how the alpha dog must exude an air of confidence, dignity, and intelligence and air authority. A firm "no" is seen by the dog as grunts and governance. "Please do not do" uttered voice sweet and pleasing means nothing to the dog. Each packet is Alpha and must establish itself as the "alpha" in the eyes of your dog.
