Dog breed of the week: Belgian Malinois

If you have ever seen a Belgian Malinois, there is a possibility you misunderstood it for another race. Belgian Malinois might at first glance be confused by some of the German shepherd dog. In reality, the two breeds are not related and have plenty of differences. First, the Malinois is a smaller frame and different position from the GSD. In addition, many feel that the Malinois is even more alert and responsive than GSD. Both breeds are commonly seen in police or military work and search and rescue missions, but it seems that the Malinois has become more desirable for these jobs in recent years.

Without a doubt is the Belgian Malinois not real dog for everyone. In fact, it is not the right dog for many. This is a very active and intense dog constant needs for both mental and physical stimulation. If you have time and desire to own a hard-working and top performer like Malinois, it can only be the dog for you. Recently my dog Chloe and I visit some friends, two of which were small children. While Chloe rest, seven-year-old child petting her head. She touched her on the nose then asked me if Chloe was sick because her nose was dry and hot. Of course I told her no, that it is a myth and my dog just rest and her nose was normal. I can't tell you how much it floors me to a myth that this has lasted so well that a child has already heard it and it is not the only one. What about the tall tale, a dog mouth is cleaner than a human foot? I remember that one as a child. Knowing what I know today, I can hardly understand how humans ever trøde that one!

So I set out to collect the most common dog myths and misunderstandings and give the real facts. Most of you are seasoned dog owners have heard all those whoppers and know they are not true, but these are some things for the novice dog owners need to know. What is the highest tale of dogs you've ever heard?

 

Dog breed of the week: Mastiff

On this week's topic of giant dogs, I am pleased to feature Mastiff! This giant breed is all Crouch and power on the outside, but inside it is lovable, mushy companion-and often a bit of a couch potato. I can not help but fall in love with each hulking and slobbery Mastiff I se. However, this is certainly not the right dog for everyone.

Does your dog Heartworm prevention?

Heartworm prevention has been on my mind this week, and it is not just because mosquitos biting. Merial, maker of the leading heartworm prevention Heartgard, accused of misleading veterinarians and pet owners about the product's effectiveness. Owens-Dr. Kari Blaho, says former researcher for Merial in Gwinnett County, Georgia, she was fired after she refused to destroy certain evidence. According to a story on wsbtv.com said "Blaho-Owens a supervisor told her to hush his own investigation, which showed Heartgard had a 20 percent failure rate." Blaho-Owens filed a lawsuit against Merial, claiming that the company intentionally withheld information about the potential inefficiencies of Heartgard.

I have been using Heartgard Plus numerous dogs in the past 15 + years. I have seen it prescribed for thousands of dogs in VET clinics where i have worked for years. I've never seen a case where a dog developed a heartworm infection, which were not related owns errors (e.g. forgetting to give the dose or dosing dog). This is not to say it is right to withhold evidence about the effectiveness of the product (if there was). But honestly, I can say that this matter will change my opinion of the product.

Whether you choose to give your dog Heartgard or one of the many other heartworm prevention products, just make sure you give something. In most of the United States been mosquitoes out in full force, nibbling away at us and our dogs. Mosquitos also happen to transfer heartworms, a serious parasite affecting the heart and lungs dogs (and sometimes cats as well). This life-threatening disease can easily be prevented by using heartworm prevention and have your pet tested annually to heartworms (a simple blood test).

Crop a Chihuahuas nails

Can I Give my dog Aspirin pain?

Do you know what to give a dog as a pain reliever?  It is one of the most difficult things to do in order to see our beloved pets suffering — and did not know what to do about it.

Dogs are not equipped with our human language for us to be able to understand the cause and source of his pain. Dog breed of the week: Poodle

If you are not familiar with maven, you might think they are snooty, prissy dogs. After all, they were even companions of French nobles. Plus many of them have signature Poodle haircut-there is not is anything but ordinary. However, there is more to the popular Poodle than meets the eye.

Gorgeous gentle Giants

It is fair to say that the giant Dog Show-Stoppers and crowd take. Go everywhere, dogs, and you will see that the huge dogs gets tons of attention. Of course, not all dog lovers to take responsibility for a giant dog, so that we can request a large dogs we se. personally, I would love a dog weighing close to 200 pounds, but with my small townhouse and compact car, which is not a chance! I am absolutely a running to greet the giant dog with hugs when they come in VET clinic or at the dog park.

Large dogs are typically gentle giants with lots of affection and loyalty. But come the compromise with the good. First and foremost, most giant dog breeds have a shorter life span than the average dog: around 6-10 years instead of the typical 12-15. They also have a tendency to develop orthopedic problems, or even feared bloat. If you decide you want a giant dog, you must Verify your lifestyle can receive the dog. Take your dog to work Friday

You could actually take your dog to work? The answer probably depends on your place of work and type job you have. Lots of people will bring their dogs to work this Friday, 24. June. Presented by Pet bag ring International, take your dog to work day celebrates our four-legged companions and promotes adoption of dogs from Humane societies, animal shelters and breed rescue clubs. In addition, this annual event encourages employers to recognize the benefits of pets in the workplace. I know personally, I am happier working with my dog around!

Now it's time to start gearing up your work space for the big day. Talk to your boss and see if you and your colleagues can do some extra space for dogs on Friday, June 24th. If your workplace is not appropriate for this sort of thing, to encourage friends and family to participate. Will still be active for the cause? Anytime is a good time to start volunteering with your local rescue group or animal shelter.

If you plan to participate in take your dog to work day, you have a few days to prepare. An important part of this event shows responsible dog ownership qualities. Here are some precautions you should take to get ready: talk to your boss and colleagues. Before you can even consider bringing you dog to work, it is important to get permission from your supervisor (unless you are the boss, of course). Either way, should the event be discussed with your colleagues. Find out if other is allergic to dogs or even afraid of them, make sure that there is enough room for other employees ' dogs and that everyone can get. This process is especially important if you have a shared workplace.Brush on behavior. Basic obedience training is crucial for all dogs, but consider a refresher course for your dog before bringing him to work. If he is on his best behavior, you will not only make a better impression you can can also be used to bring your dog to work more often.Make sure your dog is in good health. It is always important to keep your dog healthy. Before you expose your dog to other dogs, check all vaccinations are current and that your dog is in good overall health. A sick dog can not good in stress of a new environment. Plus, he could influence other employees ' dogs (or be more receptive if these dogs are sick). Gather the right tools. Make the list of dog supplies shall you., at the very least you should get your dog leash and collar, a water bowl (and possible food bowl), some dog treats, one or two toys, bags for waste and a dog bed.
