
May 15-21 is national dog bite prevention week. A collaborative effort among AVMA, AAP and the USPS, dog bite prevention week aims to promote responsible dog ownership and raise awareness of dog bite risk. According to AVMA, 4.7 million Americans are bitten by dogs each year and 800,000 of these dog bites resulting in injuries requiring medical treatment (half of these are children). What can you do to prevent dog bites? Masses. Here are some ways to get started:
