Recently I had an e-mail message from the previous client, which is the dog that suffers from seizures.
Percy is a 4 year old Lab yellow with epilepsy. Was the traditional ant seizure medicines, and does not match very well now. Is sick with classes once a month, even at the highest dose of these medicines.
My former client asked if it was something to do at home, as a whole. Want to avoid conventional medicine as it can.
So I sent it with the information in this article. You may not have seizuring pet, but you should be aware of, and possible solutions.
Seizures in dogs
Signs of activity vary, but generally include some of the following symptoms.
Loss or derangement awareness, download all the muscles in the body, changes in mental (other than flexibility to hallucinations), involuntary urination, defecation or salivation or behavioural changes, including the non-recognition of the owner, viciousness, pacing and running in circles.
Courses consist of three parts:
1) phases of pre-ictal (aura) is the period changed the behavior in which the dog can hide, appear nervous or seek its owner. It may be restless, nervous, pisk, shaking and salivating. This may take several seconds to a few hours.
2) Phase is the actual deal itself ictal. It lasts from several seconds to approximately five minutes. During this period, all the muscles of the body of the agreement strongly. The dog usually falls on its side, and it seems paralyzed, shaking. His head will be downloaded to the rear. Urination, defecation and salivation often occur. If it is not over in five minutes, the dog is described as "status epilepticus" or prolonged seizure.
3) during the post-there is confusion, leaving the ictal, salivation, pacing, recreation and temporary blindness. There is no direct relationship between the severity of the seizure and the duration of the phase of post-ictal.
Despite the dramatic signs of seizure dog feels pain, bewilderment. Unlike us humans, dogs do not swallow their tongues. If you put your fingers in your mouth, which does not help! Will operate at very high risk of being bitten-and very badly bitten. Do not put their hands in the mouth.
The important thing is to keep your dog from falling and significant itself. As long as it is on the floor (or outside on the ground), there is little chance that it will harm itself.
If a seizure lasts longer than a few minutes, his body temperature will begin to increase. When Hyperthermia (over heating), together with the seizure, will have a different set of problems.
Prolonged seizures (status epilepticus)
Status epilepticus is very serious. This is characterized by seizures, which have persisted for more than five minutes. When this occurs, Your life is in danger. Unless drugs intravenous formulations is given soon, death may occur. If your dog is in this State, you should IMMEDIATELY take him to emergency veterinary care.
Causes of seizure
There are many reasons for the seizure. Epilepsy is the most common reason and, consequently, at least to the dog. Other extreme includes serious diseases such as cancer of the brain. Fortunately, most of the seizures are caused by epilepsy.
Possible solutions
When a seizure begins taking a thorough history of focusing on possible exposure to poisonous substances or hallucinogenic or history of trauma of the head. We can also perform a physical examination, the primary blood tests and Electrocardiography (ECG). These rule out disorders liver, kidney, heart, electrolytes and the level of sugar in the blood. Heartworm test is performed if your dog does not take a heartworm preventive very regularly.
If these tests are normal and there is no exposure to poison or past trauma, further Diagnostics could be performed from the intensity and frequency of the seizure. Occasional seizures are less concerns than when seizures are becoming more severe and frequent. In this instance, spinal tap fluid and fluid analysis may be carried out. Depending on the availability of specialized imaging of the head with a CAT scan or MRI SCAN may be performed. Fortunately, additional tests are usually not needed.
The veterinarian:
We can generally prescribe 1-2 weeks anticonvulsant therapy. If you do not have any more classes at this time, the anticonvulsants are progressively discontinued. The next treatment is determined by how long it takes for another seizure occurs. It may be days, months or years, at some point, many Dogs are often not enough to justify the seizure of continuous anticonvulsant therapy. Because this means that drugs must be given every 12 to 24 hours for the rest of life, is not recommended until seizures occur about every 30 days or unless they take more than five minutes.
This is important in order to avoid a sudden discontinuation of any medicines anticonvulsant. Even normal dogs can be prone to seizure if placed on the anticonvulsant medication and then rapidly withdrawn from him. Your veterinarian to outline a timetable for the abandonment of the treatment.
Hypoallergenic diet:
There are reports that the link between diet and seizures in dogs. Each pet seizuring at least try commercial diet hypoallergenic to 12 weeks. You can also enter your own diet elimination.
Melatonin:
It was used anticonvulsant for some dogs. Many Dogs have only seizures at night.
Homeopathic Medicinal Products:
Cicuta virosa. This can be granted control of the seizure.
Serenity:
Many domestic animals with epilepsy will take in response to certain stimuli, such as a loud noise or bright light. Learn what triggers seizure animal and avoid such situations.
Try these solutions if you want to see what works for Your dog. Note how I mention food opportunity: If you are not feeding a pet food quality natural premium, you must now switch. This will help more than just deal-will in almost all areas of the disease. What can I do!
