Dog breed of the week: Tibetan Mastiff

Known as one of the world's oldest and most expensive dog breeds, is The Tibetan Mastiff in the news again. According to The Telegraph (UK), was a beautiful red Tibetan mastiff puppy recently sold for 10 million Yuan. There are around $ 1.5 million! 11 month old puppy, named Big Splash ("Hong Dong" in Chinese) already weighs over 180 pounds and is nearly three metres high. The breeder Lu Liang could reveal the identity of the buyer, but says that he is a wealthy coal baron from northern China. Mr. Lu says buyer seemed to really love the puppy and felt he was a good investment: "as a male dog, he can be rented to other breeders to as much as 100,000 yuan a shot. In the United States, a Tibetan Mastiff from a reputable breeder is more expensive than the average purebred, but it is fortunately nowhere close to the price of Big Splash. National Poison Prevention Week

Established by Congress in 1961, Poison national week an annual national festival, which aims to reduce unintentional poisoning and promote poison prevention prevention. Although the original was, of course, directed against people we pet people know that it is equally important to prevent the poisoning of our beloved animal companions. Pet poison hotline has been behind the national poison prevention week, encouraging pet owners to be aware of common household items that can bring their pets.

This week, take a moment to educate yourself about hazards in your pets environment. Learn all about toxins and your dog, so that you can do your best to lower the risk of poisoning. Don't forget to take note of the food products that are toxic to dogs, because some foods which are harmless to humans may be dangerous for pets. When the pet-proofing your home, keep in mind that many dogs is much craftier than you may realize. Potentially toxic elements should not be kept within the scope of your dog. Simple CHILD SAFETY locks are not enough for the determined dogs who want dynamism and chewing their way to places they don't belong. Play it safe and keep toxins up high or in a room, as your pets absolutely cannot get access.

15Th congratulations to Petfinder.com! As mentioned in the last week has dedicated this day of Petfinder pet adoption. Today, in honor of their 15-year milestone, shall adopt the Internet today! I think it is safe to say that just about anyone who has adopted a pet has a beautiful story to tell. I also bet these people are enthusiastic about their adoptive pets. Last week asked for some dog adoptions stories, I can function today, so here are a few of my favorites:

Chance is a pure bred Catahoula Leopard Hound, who has been deaf since birth. He was adopted through the Petfinder.com in September 2007. I have always adopted dogs from rescue groups or "pound". When I put my Dalmatian mixed race, was my second dog seriously depressed. I searched on Petfinder.com and found listing the chance. Original breeder will enable him shortly after he was born, because he is deaf. Prior owners found him in so he would not be, but then abandoned him when he was 7 months old, because he was "out of control". He had just more exercise and a stronger human leader. Tintin was adopted in February 2001 in Chiang mai, Thailand. Tintin was 13 months old when we met her--when she found us! She had been purchased by a teenager as toys for his younger sister; When Tintin was no longer a puppy, she was cast. She had been terribly abused and were undernourished so that her teeth are pretty terrible to look at. She found us, while we were visiting a friend, who had retired and moved to Thailand. Retrieves her home back with us to Sweden was expensive and complicated, but we would do it again in a minute. Tintin is loving and gentle, except with rabbits. Glad to be able to meet strangers. Toby was adopted in September 2007 through a promotion organisation called "STARS" (save the animals Rescue Society). Toby was found wandering the streets by the Humane Society. His hair was all matted extremely unkempt. They had him shave to get matted hair. He was transferred to a preparedness, stars and they had him neutered, had him current on shots and put him up for adoption. I saw him in an ad on the Internet. He would be in the local pet shop Saturday from 11 till 2. I had a friend over and she went with me to see, I told her we would have to wait 10 minutes for 2 and if he was still there, I would adopt him. He was still there. He did not bark in three months. I do not think he could. Toby today is very sweet natured and loves to please. He loves to play go fetch your legs and sometimes he plays with it by himself. If he loses it, seems like under the couch or a pillow, he told me to get it for him by barking one bark and then standing near where the bone is located. Read Toby full story here.

Help for Japan's pets

Devastation in Japan is beyond tragic. My heart goes to the people who have lost their homes and their loved ones last Friday, the earthquake and tsunami. After my first concern for the people of Japan was one of my next thoughts on animals. We all know how much the Japanese people love their pets (think about the viral videos of Maru the cat or the heartwarming tale of loyal Akita Hachiko).

Many of Japan's beloved pet was lost or wounded during the earthquake and tsunami. I came across this video and blog shows one dog loyalty to his wounded friend and tears came to my eyes. However, I was relieved to learn that the world veterinary surgeons, one of my favorite organizations have deployed its first assistance device! Even better, I found out that blog event is called "Paws for Japan" will take place tomorrow to raise funds and awareness. I am on board! You can learn more about how to participate on Blog Paws be the change.

Each time there is a tragedy such as this, it makes me think of disaster and emergency preparedness for pets. With such a large as Japan's recent earthquake and tsunami tragedy there is only so much to advance planning can make. Nevertheless, it is a good idea for all of us to have a disaster plan in the event of emergencies. If tragedy strikes, are you and your pets ready?

Adopt Internet day

Pet adoption is one of my favorites, so when I heard about Petfinder's coming to adopt Internet day I jumped at the opportunity to participate. Petfinder.com is today's leading pet adoption website. Working with thousands of animal shelters and rescue groups, Petfinder has helped find home to countless number of pets. In honor of their 15th birthday, asking Petfinder bloggers everywhere to commit to adoptable pets on the blog on 15 March 2011. Next Tuesday, in be blogging about dog adoption, along with a few dozen other pet-related Web sites.

Dog breed of the week: Mutt

It is time again to feature mixed-breed dogs (Yes, my favorite). Although mutt is not technically a breed, mixed breed dogs definitely have their place as "race" in a week. They are no less deserving of the spotlight than purebred dogs. Many of the dogs in shelters are mutts, then adopt a is a great way to help dogs in need.

Personally, I am a mixed-race enthusiast. I love just how each mutt is a bit of a mystery, and enjoy taking a guess about mutt race makeup. Mixed race fans will probably agree that mutts are among the most unique all dogs. No two mutts is completely the same, and descent of any given mutt is usually a mystery.

Humanitarian efforts are underway, and I must say, the way people have come together to help each other is beautiful. Now, pets need our help. Led by Blog Paws be change, today is the day for bloggers over the Internet, can come together to help pets in Japan (including my colleague About.com Guide, Dr. Janet Crosby-about veterinary medicine). World veterinary surgeons, one of my favorite organizations have deployed its first assistance unit to Japan. You can help their efforts now!

World vets is a legitimate and reputable non-profit group working with animal advocacy groups, foreign Governments, us and foreign military groups and veterinary professionals veterinary aid throughout the world. Right now a team deployed in Japan. Here is the latest update from their website: "the world veterinary surgeons are in Niigata, Japan right now with a shipment of veterinary supplies. They are led out in a couple of hours (dawn) against the hardest-hit areas to carry out reviews and provide assistance. World veterinarians veterinarian Dr Koji Fukumura will be arriving in Tokyo on Friday and will be staying long-term, as our in-country coordinator, and to provide direct assistance to animals in distress. More world veterinarians responder team is currently on standby as we assess the situation and cooperation with groups in Japan. "

Dressage pension breed in this week: sugar cane Corso

Massive Cane Corso can be quite daunting at first glance and good reason. This is not your typical big Goofy tail-wagger. Cane Corso is rather a muscular, athletic and powerful working dog. He is fearless, noble and vigilant. This is a serious dog. Having said all that, Cane Corso can make an excellent companion for the right household. He is not necessarily the most a devoted dogs, but he is fair. Cane Corso will form a close bond with members of his family and act as a guardian and protector. That is actually how the breed was named: "corso" was derived from the Latin face, which means "guardian" and "protector." Sugar cane is the Italian word for dog (derived from the Latin canis).

Cane Corso was a new official AKC working group race in 2010. The breed, along with six other new dog breeds, will make its Westminster Dog Show debut this February.

Cane Corso is an amazing dog, but it is definitely not true for all. The breed might territorial and often have an aversion to strangers. Dog breed of the week: bearded Collie

Collie bearded, lovingly known as Beardie, is a medium-sized vallhund dog who is perhaps best known for his memorable shaggy hair. Energetic, playful and often goofy, Beardies are easy to get along with and make excellent companions. The breed is also still used for herding today, and is considered a hardworking and independent philosopher.

Beardies are known to be excellent family dogs, sheep for a long time, good with children. They are affectionate dogs who ask for human friendship. Dressage pension breed in the week: Scottish Terrier

This week's featured race was chosen in honor of "Sadie" AKA Ch Roundtown Mercedes of Maryscot., best in Show winner at last year's Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show Westminster. 2011 is just a few days away, and probably another breed of dog wins the title of the best show. For now, let us celebrate Scottie.

Scottish Terrier or Scottie, is an active and bold dog with very short legs and a small but sturdy build. Scottie is strong and fearless, but makes also a a devoted Companion. This race is well known for its distinctive beard and short stature, as good as it is frequent Scottish clothing in pictures and cartoons. Scotties has been owned by many well-known personalities over the years, including Queen Victoria, Franklin d. Roosevelt, Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, and George w. Bush. Scotties love also? 5 plug-ins, which could be poisoning Your Dog-Dog health food is an excellent alternative

Dog health food not only luxury already, if you want to be our best friends as healthy as possible. It is not simply people food, which is full of additives and fillers. Often leftover food, which has little or no nutritional value is our dog food. Here is the 5 best things to avoid in foods that you are delivering to your dog.

1. Total fats and proteins

If we want our dogs also eat, why we can even give them food from "meat" as its essential ingredient? Do you ever consider buying-in of "meat" of the butcher and cooking for the rest of Your family? I hope not!

Generic meat you can hide all manner of animals not complying with the standards, which knowingly supply your dog. So if you want to keep using the cheapest parts they label them with a very vague concept as meat animals. Nice cuts of meat, can always be but let's face it, if it was beef in the food, they could be labelling in this way, not "animal".

While it is true that wild dogs will eat almost all parts of the animal. Not too many wild animals will be focussed on growth hormones and pesticides in their bodies. We have all heard of things, such as roadkill and domestic authorities are introduced to our dog food, but we are never quite sure. There is a whole bunch nasty things, which may be placed under the term "animal" so it is probably the most important thing in order to avoid contamination of food your dog

2. Maize or wheat gluten meal

Are they cheap by-products of food for humans, which have been introduced to dog food. Seizures in dogs-dogs with Epilepsy

Recently I had an e-mail message from the previous client, which is the dog that suffers from seizures.

Percy is a 4 year old Lab yellow with epilepsy. Was the traditional ant seizure medicines, and does not match very well now. Is sick with classes once a month, even at the highest dose of these medicines.

My former client asked if it was something to do at home, as a whole. Want to avoid conventional medicine as it can.

So I sent it with the information in this article. You may not have seizuring pet, but you should be aware of, and possible solutions.

Seizures in dogs

Signs of activity vary, but generally include some of the following symptoms.

Loss or derangement awareness, download all the muscles in the body, changes in mental (other than flexibility to hallucinations), involuntary urination, defecation or salivation or behavioural changes, including the non-recognition of the owner, viciousness, pacing and running in circles.

Courses consist of three parts:

1) phases of pre-ictal (aura) is the period changed the behavior in which the dog can hide, appear nervous or seek its owner. It may be restless, nervous, pisk, shaking and salivating. This may take several seconds to a few hours.

2) Phase is the actual deal itself ictal. It lasts from several seconds to approximately five minutes. During this period, all the muscles of the body of the agreement strongly. The dog usually falls on its side, and it seems paralyzed, shaking. His head will be downloaded to the rear. Urination, defecation and salivation often occur. If it is not over in five minutes, the dog is described as "status epilepticus" or prolonged seizure.
